Meet Edrine Kusemererwa, A Singer & Social Advocate

Updated: Jun 28, 2022

What does Empowering Women in Industry mean to you?

It's a community of women supporting each other to keep their beacons burning in their different careers by drawing inspiration from each other's experiences. It's one woman lifting another up, it's women being there for each other.

How did you get started in your field?

I love seeing young people in Uganda, especially teenagers, inspired and supported to stay in school and overcome the cycle of poverty and harmful cultural practices like child marriages in Uganda.

I formally started my work of advocating for Gender Equality and Education Access for girls and women in 2018 when I produced my song "Get Off My Way by Edrine K." However, before that, I was actively involved in organizing my community against teenage pregnancy and child marriages through volunteering with different organizations. In 2018, I formalized my work by working towards starting my own organization which I co-founded with two friends in 2019.

What do you love most about your job? What are you most proud of?

No words can describe the feeling of seeing lives being changed as a result of your work. Dive in, do it!

Anything Else?

Thank you for creating a vibrant community of women leaders.

Connected with Edrine on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
