Meet Lauren Kay, An Author and Podcaster

Q:  What does Empowering Women mean to you?

Lauren: Empowering women means to me to build and create spaces for other women to take up space; to have a space to explore who they are and who they want to be with curiosity and intention. This would mean building bridges in the gaps that hinders women from reaching and unlocking their full potential with tools that meet women where they are instead of expecting women to prove themselves worthy of having access to tools. This is personally my mission, to provide women with practical steps that provide a sense of purpose, direction, and agency in a woman owning her journey.

Q:  How did you get started working in your field?

Lauren: Becoming a therapist, speaker, and coach started back in 8th grade into high school after my own mental health struggles and season of adversity that I had to understand, heal from, and move past into my early 20's. After doing the heavy lifting of therapy and doing the necessary healing, I found myself stuck in this in-between of how to get out of my 'what now' and into my 'what's next'. I searched endlessly for books or blogs that would show me the steps I could take to keep moving forward in the next chapter of my life after adversity, with no luck. I then made it my vision to create practical questions and steps women could use in their in-between.

Q:  What do you love most about your job? / What are you most proud of?

Lauren: I love sitting with folks in their healing journeys, providing that listening ear and guidance while they self reflect on what creates hope and meaning for their lives. It is humbling to see how time, empathy, and compassion provide opportunities for others to find their own next steps.

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering this line of work?

Lauren: Showing up is still doing the work. Most of the time, we hold this idea we need to have the best advice and know all the answers to other's struggles. While there are times where there needs to be an ethical and professional intervention, most often it is in the humanness that other's find healing and their voice.
